The sizzling summer heat has disappeared and the comfortable cool of autumn has arrived. I love this time of year, everything about it: the weather, my anniversary, my birthday, school starting, and menus changing. The warm, rich fall foods I missed all spring and summer are returning to menus everywhere - even in my house!
Variety is one of the most important principals to healthy eating. When we eat a variety of foods, we tend to consume a more nutritionally complete diet than if we limit ourselves to only a few foods.
Each week, I make a menu for the week while looking at my calendar and activities. If I know I will not have a lot of time, I may pick a crockpot meal or plan to have left overs. This menu guides my grocery list for the week and has helped cut back on the stress of healthy eating as well as cutting down the cost. Here is an example of this week's menu.
I am not fancy. I wish I was fancy, and I have friends who cook very fancy but I am not. I cook simple, quick and inexpensive. As you start changing over to fall foods, make a plan and see how it helps your waist line and budget!
